Ukrainian beekeepers for the first half of the year 2017 exported nearly 30 thousand tons of honey, with major buyers being regions with high purchasing power of consumers – Europe and the United States.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine with reference to the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of UkraineIssues of Eurointeraction Olga Trofimtseva.
“The field of beekeeping today is one of the most dynamic in the agrarian sector. For the last 10 years, the export of honey has increased sevenfold. I personally call honey our “export hit”. During the first half of the 2017, our beekeepers have already exported nearly 30 000 tons of products, with our main buyers being countries with high purchasing power of consumers – Europe and the United States. But I urge honey producers to consolidate their success on domestic and foreign markets to unite into cooperatives or regional clusters, “the ministry’s press service quoted.
According to the report, Ukraine has become a prominent player on the world market for honey. In 2016 year, according to the Minagroprod, almost 57 thousand tons of honey were exported.
According to Trofimtseva, the lion’s share of honey production in Ukraine falls on small producers. At the same time, she said, uniting into cooperatives will allow Ukrainian beekeepers to lobby their interests more effectively to exporters, the state and foreign partners.
The press service also noted that today in Ukraine there are about 400 thousand honey producers. The main importers of Ukrainian honey for 2016 and the beginning of 2017 (6 months): Germany – 24 247 tons; USA – 21 037 tons; Poland – 14 046 tons; France – 4238 tons; Turkey – 3209 tons; Belgium – 2739 tons; Hungary – 2192 tons.
